K-9 Unit Helps Kirkland Police Capture Car Prowlers Near Juanita Drive

Two men aged 17 and 18 were tracked down early Wednesday morning with the help of the Redmond Police K-9 unit and arrested for investigation of second-degree car prowling.

Kirkland Police arrested two men 17 and 18 years old in Juanita early Wednesday morning for investigation of car prowling after tracking the pair down with the help of the Redmond Police Department’s K-9 unit.

A homeowner near the 8600 block of Juanita Drive called police at about 2:30 a.m. to report the suspicious men in or around the vehicle, said Kirkland Police Department spokesman Lt. Mike Murray.

“They took off running, and officers set up a perimeter,” Murray said. “The Redmond K-9 unit tracked them down for us.”

Kirkland has its own K-9 unit, Officer Jeff Trombley and the German shepherd Max. But adjacent jurisdictions typically share teams when the home unit is away or not on duty, so Redmond’s K-9 team of Officer Sam Hovenden and his shepherd Vader came to help.

The two men, believed to be local residents, were arrested in suspicion of second-degree car prowling.
