Kirkland Police Release Statement in Fatal Bicycle/Auto Collision

An unidentified bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck from behind by a vehicle on NE Juanita Drive.

UPDATE: The Kirkland Police Department released this statement at 6:40 p.m., Friday, July 22:

On July 22, 2011, at approximately 3:45 pm an unknown adult male was struck from behind by a vehicle as he was riding his bicycle Northbound in the 8600 block of NE Juanita Dr. The bicyclist suffered severe injuries in the accident and despite EMS efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was an 18-year-old male. The Kirkland Police Department Fatality Investigation Team responded to the scene to investigate the collision. NE Juanita Drive remains closed for this ongoing investigation.

Kiro TV 7 is reporting a fatal bicyle/automobile accident in Kirkland on the 8600 block of Juanita Drive NE in Kirkland.

The Seattle Times reported that a dispatcher has confirmed the death and that a pickup was involved.
