Kirkland Man Injured in One-Car Crash That Kills Driver

The driver, a 26-year-old man from Bonney Lake, was under the influence when his car left the road and hit trees, the State Patrol reports.

A one-car accident on State Route 164 killed Derek Phifer, a 26-year-old Bonney Lake resident.

A passenger in the car, 27-year-old Tristan E. Plew of Kirkland, was taken to Harborview Medical Center with injuries.

Just after 7 a.m. on Monday Nov. 14, Phifer was driving eastbound on SR 164, just east of SE 382nd St., when he crossed into the westbound lanes and left the roadway, striking multiple trees.

According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, Phifer was driving under the influence. He was pronounced dead at Harborview.
