KPD Blotter: Counterfeit Cash, Grandpa Scam and a Stolen Golden Bracelet

In other Kirkland police reports, a man was arrested after he allegedly walked out of the Parkplace QFC with two bags of fried chicken and a bottle of brandy.

 

The following are selected reports from the Kirkland Police Department for the period of March 31 to April 3. Any arrests noted do not indicate a conviction.

March 28

  • Police arrested a 35-year-old Kirkland man for suspicion of assault after he flicked a cigarette butt into his girlfriend's face and then grabbed car keys from her hand, cutting her finger. The incident occurred at a home along NE 80th Street on Rose Hill just before midnight. The woman refused treatment. The man was taken to the city jail and booked.

March 29

  • After giving personal information over the phone to an unknown caller, and 82-year-old man who lives off Slater Avenue in the Totem lake area discovered someone had forged and cashed a  check on his account. The amount was not listed on the report. Police found no leads to pursue.
  • A case was forwarded to the U.S. Secret Service after the manager of a gas station just off Interstate 405 in the Totem Lake area called police to report that a 29-year-old Ellenburg man had tried to use a counterfeit $20 bill. The Ellensburg man denied knowing it was phony, and did wait for police to arrive. The bill was taken as evidence. It happened just after 1 p.m.

  • A silver necklace with a gold-inlay pendant and a 83-gram 14K gold bracelet were stolen from a 45-year-old woman who lives in  Totem Lake area apartment, and she told police she believes the culprit was a friend of her roommate. She identified the suspect, who was at the apartment between March 9 and 30, but there were no witnesses

March 31

  • A car prowler overnight entered the unlocked car of a 57-year-old woman who lives on Rose Hill’s NE 74th Street and stole a toolbox and tool set.

April 1

  • Police were called at about 9 a.m. to a house on NE 87th Street in the Highlands neighborhood where they found a 32-year-old Bothell woman who had been visibly injured after being pushed into a table by the 41-year-old female resident. No arrests were made, but the case was forwarded to the city prosecutor.
  • A Child Protective Services caseworker was called after a 12-year-old boy showed up at his aunt’s Kingsgate area house at 6 a.m., saying his 68-year-old foster mother had slammed his hand in a door when he refused to go to school. Police noted a mark on the boy’s hand consistent with that kind of injury.
  • A 30-year-old Mountlake Terrace man was arrested after he allegedly loaded up a shopping cart full of clothes, walked out of the Value Village in west Totem Lake and drove away without paying. The store manager witnessed the theft at about 6:30 p.m.

April 3

  • Police arrested a 43-year-old Tacoma man after he allegedly attempted to shoplift two packages of fried chicken and a bottle of brandy from the Parkplace Center QFC store around midnight. The store manager witnessed the incident and agreed to assist in prosecution. The items were returned to the store, but one bag of chicken had been partially consumed.
