KPD Blotter: Finn Hill Man Loses $5,000 In Craigslist Job Scam

Other cases involve a grandpa angry at his drug-abusing son and a thief interrupted while trying to steal chrome wheels.

The following are selected reports from the Kirkland Police Department for the period of Feb. 1-4. The reports do not indicate a conviction.

Feb. 1

  • At about 7 a.m., a man broke into a fenced storage area of a tire store on Sixth Street downtown but was apparently surprised by the arrival of an employee and fled without the 17-inch chrome wheels he was attempting to steal. The suspect was not identified, but it was a male who left in a gold van that had lettering on it from a trailer manufacturing company.
  • An unknown suspect stole a platinum wedding band with diamonds all around from the master bathroom of a 34-year-old female resident on 15th Avenue in the Norkirk neighborhood. She told police the theft occurred between Jan. 30 and Feb. 1. Although the thief was not identified, the report listed a white male as a suspect.

  • A 51-year-old resident of 137th Street on Finn Hill lost $5,000 from his Paypal account after signing up for an alleged job on Craigslist and apparently forwarding his account information. Turns out there was no job, it was all a scam. The fraud occurred between Oct. 28 and Jan. 10, he told police.
  • A lamp post at a home on 60th Street in the Lakeview neighborhood was broken and vandalized with the lettering “ABK and “JAKS” some time overnight, reported the 40-year-old female resident. The woman reported seeing two teenage males acting suspicious, but she could not describe them. Two suspects were located, a 15-year-old male and an 18-year-old female, and the male was contacted. But no evidence of a crime was revealed. The investigating officer also discovered white paint on two other residences on 60th, on a mailbox and a fence. Also reported in the case was the theft of water bottles and two bags of Oreo cookies.
  • Angered that his 33-year-old son wanted to take his 7-year-old grandson on a walk at about 8:20 p.m. despite it being a school night, a 60-year-old man who lives on Finn Hill’s 136th Street called police. He said his son became confrontational and was on drugs, reportedly methamphetamine, and that the grandson was cold and did not want to go on a walk. Police gave the older man a pamphlet on responding to domestic violence and referred the case to Child Protective Services.
  • After waking up and finding her television wasn’t working at about 7 a.m., a 41-year-old female resident of 126th Avenue in the Bridle Trails area called her cable company, which told her the cables had been cut outside her home. She told police she suspected her 50-year-old husband, but he denied the deed. It cost her $100 to get hooked back up.

Feb. 4

  • Vandals threw a rock that shattered the sliding glass door of a vacant house on 102nd Court in Juanita some time between Jan. 16 and Feb. 1, reported the owner of the home, a 76-year-old Bothell man. It cost $600 to replace.
