KPD Blotter: K-9 Unit Tracks, Fails to Catch Interrupted Burglar

In other cases, several more residential burglaries were investigated and Seattle cops busted two in a stolen vehicle with plates stolen from a Kirkland man's car.

The following are selected reports from the Kirkland Police Department from the period of March 2-7. The reports do not indicate a conviction.

March 2

  • Seattle Police arrested two people in a stolen car in Seattle with license plates from a different vehicle, registered to a 61-year-old man who lives on Finn Hill’s 141st Street. The man was contacted by Kirkland Police and discovered the plates had been stolen from a vehicle he owns and swapped with two others. The valid plates were returned to the proper owner and wrong ones kept as evidence.
  • A few new details emerged in a in north Juanita at about 3:30 p.m. The case is being handled by the FBI, but the KPD report indicates the female suspect was white, robbed the bank using a note, did not show a weapon and escaped with an unspecified amount of cash.
  • The Kirkland Police K-9 unit attempted to track a suspect after a 41-year-old resident of 106th Avenue in south Juanita apparently interrupted a burglary at his home. The thief tried to force open a side door, but then entered through an unlocked back door at about 1 p.m. and managed to steal jewelry and rifle through drawers before fleeing. The K-9 unit picked up a track that appeared to go to nearby residences, but the thief got away. No solid evidence was found.

  • An 18-year-old Kirkland man was arrested for allegedly stealing a mountain bike from the open garage of a residence on 122nd Avenue near on Rose Hill. The theft occurred between 2 and 5 p.m., and the victim was a 23-year-old woman. The bike was returned to the owner, and police kept as evidence a cell phone. The suspect apparently attempted to sell the bike, since he was charged with burglary, theft and trafficking in stolen property.
  • Police chased down on foot at about 2:30 a.m. a 22-year-old Lynnwood man who ran during an investigation of a possible assault, apparently outside a restaurant on 120th Avenue in the Totem Lake area. The chase was short and the man was arrested for obstructing an officer.


March 5

  • The only thing taken was a remote garage door opener when someone entered the garage, left open overnight, of a 46-year-old female resident of 121st Court in Juanita. Police found no fingerprints or other evidence.


March 6

  • A burglar or burglars broke into the home of a 40-year-old man who lives on 142nd Place in north Juanita sometime between 7:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m., stealing two laptop computers, an iPod gaming device and a Crown Royal bag containing more than $100 in change. The thieves entered through a rear sliding door. Police left with no leads.


March 7

  • An apparent burglar fled after a 46-year-old man who lives on Observation Drive in the Highlands neighborhood heard someone enter his home while he was in the shower at about 9 a.m. and yelled out. Nothing was found amiss and police fond no suspect information.
  • Thieves entered the home of a 57-year-old male resident of 104th Avenue in Juanita some time between March 2 and 4, stealing various undisclosed items. The culprits broke in through a rear sliding door. Police took fingerprints from a bathroom mirror.
  • Police arrested a 23-year-old Kirkland man for allegedly shoplifting beer from the restaurant on Central Way downtown a little after 6 p.m., and also found him to be in possession of about half a gram of marijuana. Police took as evidence surveillance video.
