KPD Blotter: Whiff of Pot Leads to Citation for Driver With Expired Tabs

Other cases involve storage facility break-ins, a construction site theft and a $2082 forged check.

 

The following are selected reports from the Kirkland Police Department for the period of 9-13. The reports do not indicate a conviction.

March 9

  • A forged check was apparently used to draw $2,082 from a 31-year-old Juanita man’s Bank of America account on March 6, he reported to police on March 9. Police recovered the forged check and listed as a suspect a 48-year-old man from Chicago.
  • Police detected marijuana and a pipe after pulling over a 21-year-old Kenmore man for speeding at about 3 in the morning on 6th street in the Norkirk neighborhood, and cited him for misdemeanor possession and speeding. Police confiscated 0.93 grams of pot and a glass pipe with residue.

  • Burglaries were reported at two self-storage facilities within 11 blocks of each other on either side of Interstate 405 in the Totem Lake area, one at around 4 a.m. and the other apparently in the early afternoon. Police found no leads at either place, and the locks had been cut or otherwise removed in both cases. Unknown items were taken from one, rented by a 53-year-old Bothell woman. The other, rented by a 60-year-old Kirkland man, had been entered, but nothing appeared to be missing.
  • One of the same self-storage facilities as in the case above was the scene of another break-in sometime between March 8-10. There were two victims, both Kirkland men, one 31 and the other 36, who reported the theft at 2 p.m. They lost two televisions, one a 42-inch plasma, along with a desktop computer, DVD player and the lock on the unit. This facility is in the 12200 block of NE 124th in the Totem Lake area. There were no witnesses, no suspects.


March 12

  • Two pressure washers and three generators were stolen sometime over the weekend from a construction site in the 3900 block of Lake Washington Blvd, not far from State Route 520. A 36-year-old man from Fircrest reported the theft, telling police he had secured the equipment, along with another pressure washer, to a building at the site. When he arrived at the site on Monday, five of the six pieces were gone. There is no suspect information.
  • Police smelled marijuana after pulling over a 40-year-old Seattle man for expired license tabs, and cited him for misdemeanor possession after he admitted to having the pot. They confiscated a pill bottle with marijuana inside, along with a purple pipe containing residue. It happened at 6 p.m. in the 12300 block of NE 124th in the Totem Lake area.
  • An unknown suspect pried open a lock box at Totem Lake West shopping area in the 12400 block of 116th Avenue sometime during the night, then turned off the power and smashed the window of a tobacco store. But the thief took nothing except a gas-powered leaf blower.


March 13

  • A 54-year-old homeless Kirkland woman was arrested at Parkplace Center downtown for driving under the influence and shoplifting after allegedly trying to steal alcohol from the store there. Her blood alcohol level level was tested at .269, about three times the legal limit. It happened at about 3:30 a.m.
  • A platinum diamond ring was reported stolen from a 91-year-old Bothell woman while she was at between Jan. 24 and 26. The theft was reported by a 61-year-old Bothell man. Police have no leads.
