KPD Blotter: Woman's Wallet Snatched From Cart at Grocery Checkout Stand

In other cases, a man suspects his girlfriend's ex-lover for slashing his tires and a neighbor interrupts a burglary in progress.

The following are selected reports from the Kirkland Police Department for the period of Feb. 17-22. The reports do not indicate a conviction.

Feb. 17

  • After all four tires on his 2002 BMW were slashed and the body scratched extensively, a 45-year-old man who lives in the Forbes Creek Drive area told police he suspected his girlfriend's ex-lover. The car was parked in the man’s driveway and the damage was apparently caused overnight, since he called police at 7:05 a.m. Police advised the victim to obtain a protection order against the suspect, a 37-year-old man from Cedar Park, Texas.
  • A 54-year-old resident on 116th Avenue in the Bridle Trails area told police he suspected someone had stolen mail from his box over the previous two days because he had received none, and the lock on his neighbors’ box had been broken off the day before.
  • A burglary in progress was apparently interrupted when a 70-year-old man who lives on 113th Avenue in Juanita heard a loud bang at the neighbor’s house and opened his front door to see a man return to his unmarked white “box” truck and leave. When the 74-year-old neighbor returned home, she discovered that her door had been kicked and damaged. She also found a claw hammer that was left in the back yard. The suspect was described as about 5-foot-6 and thin, race unknown. It all happened around noon.
  • A burglar or burglars stole a Kindle tablet and various jewelry from a residence on a cul-de-sac off 116th in the Par-Mac/Totem Lake area, police were told by the couple who lived there, 32 and 38 years old. The burglary occurred some time during the previous week, and the front door and jam were damaged.



Feb. 18

  • While at the checkout stand of the on 85th, someone stole right out of a shopping cart the wallet belonging to a 48-year-old Kirkland woman. Police questioned a suspect, 19-year-old Fall City woman who was nearby at the time of the theft. But she consented to a search and police found nothing. The older woman lost her driver’s license, $70 cash and five credit/debit cards. The theft occurred just before 2 p.m.
  • About 40 gallons of diesel fuel were siphoned out of a Ford F150 truck some over the previous month, a 59-year-old man who lives on 6th south in the Everest area told police. The rig was parked on the street in front of the residence. Police found no suspect information.

Feb. 20

  • Police contacted two 16-year-old Kirkland males in a car near and confiscated 2.3 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia. Both of them allegedly admitted to paying for the pot, and charges were referred to the prosecutor.

  • A 58-year-old woman who lives on 138th Place in north Juanita called police to report that an unwanted person, her 28-year-old son, was at her door. Police arrived some time after 9:12 a.m. and spotted the man, who had several outstanding Kirkland warrants, near the end of the complex. After short foot chase to the other end of the complex, the man was taken into custody and arrested on the warrants.


Feb. 22

  • All four hubcaps were stolen from a 2002 Mitsubishi sometime during the night at a residence on 9th Street in the west of Market neighborhood, the 19-year-old owner told police.
