UPDATE: Body Found, Believed to be Suspect in Killing of Ranger

The suspect is an Iraq War veteran who is also a suspect in the shooting of four people early Sunday morning in Skyway.

UPDATE, 11:25 a.m.: The Washington State Patrol reports that authorities have found the body of a man lying face down in the snow at Mount Rainier National Park, and it is believed to be Benjamin Barnes, the suspect in the killing Sunday of ranger Margaret Anderson.

Dozens of police and federal agents searched Mount Rainier National Park Monday for a 24-year-old Iraq War veteran suspected in the shooting death of a park ranger Sunday and a shooting earlier Sunday morning of four people in Skyway.

Authorities suspect Benjamin Barnes shot and killed Ranger Margaret Anderson Sunday morning, after he failed to stop at a required tire checkpoint.

"A ranger tried to pull the car over and when it failed to stop, Park Ranger Margaret Anderson established a road block with her vehicle," according to the National Park Service. "The assailant jumped from his car and opened fire with a shotgun, fatally wounding Ranger Anderson."

He is also a susepct in the in the Skyway area of Renton.

Authorities believe Barnes then fled on foot into the woods, but fired at authorities arriving on the the scene, including the Pierce County SWAT team.

"They, too, were fired upon while rendering aid to Ranger Anderson," according to the NPS.

Authorities shut down the park and were not allowing anyone to enter or leave. Sunday night about 125 park visitors were evacauted from the park visitor center at Paradise, which has a restaurant to provide food, restrooms and water,  and law-enforcement officers are on hand to provide protection.

The search for the suspect continued into the night, with fixed wing  aircraft using forward looking infrared to scan the ground. There are more than 100 officers from a variety of agencies assisting with the manhunt for the shooter, including National Park Service, Pierce County   Sheriff, FBI, Washington State Patrol, U.S. Forest Service, City of Enumclaw, and Lewis County Sheriff.

Mount Rainier National Park will remain closed Monday.

Anderson, who was 34, served at Mount Rainier for four years. She is survived by her husband, also a park ranger at Mount  Rainier, and two young daughters.

As for the 24-year-old suspect, police say he is armed and dangerous and beleived to be an Iraq War veteran who is also a suspect in the early Sunday morning shooting of four people at a house party in the Skyway area west of Renton.
