POLICE BLOTTER: Lots of Fireworks Complaints, Plus Thefts, Assaults

In another case, a 32-year-old Seattle man was arrested for burglary, theft and malicious mischief after a break-in.

The following are selected reports from the Kirkland Police Department for July 2-7.

July 2

  • Six calls were made to Kirkland Police complaining of fireworks, which are illegal in Kirkland. Most were from recently annexed neighboroods, where fireworks were legal before June 1.
  • A 24-year-old man from Redmond was arrested for assault after allegedly punching a 33-year-old Lynnwood man in the lip, splitting it. The incident apparently happened at a bar on 120th Ave NE in the Totem Lake area.
  • A 32-year-old Kirkland woman reported that someone stole her 4g cell phone when she left it on a table of a restaurant on Lake Street downtown to go to the restroom.

 

July 3

  • Police received 13 calls of complaint about fireworks -- most, but not all, from recently annexed neighborhoods.

  • Police received 71 complaints about fireworks from many areas of Kirkland, and a handful resulted in arrests or citations.
  • Among several driving-while-intoxicated cases police handled on the holiday was the crash of a 35-year-old motorcyclist from Kirkland, who dumped his Harley while driving near the 9200 block of 131st Way in Juanita. He failed to negotiate a bend and became separated from the motorcycle, which then hit an oncoming car. He suffered minor injuries, but the Harley was totaled. He was cited for DUI and the Department of Corrections was notified, since he is under its supervision.

 

July 5

  • Police received nine fireworks complaints.
  • After an employee at a station/market on Rose Hill's NE 85th Street reported that a man came in and stole an 18-pack of beer, police contacted a 17-year-old suspect on a traffic stop. The beer was returned and the young man, from Kirkland, was cited for third degree theft and his parents contacted.
  • While a 20-year-old woman from Everett was being booked at the Kirkland Jail on 5th Avenue on an unrelated case after a court date, she was found to be carrying a small amount of marijuana. She was booked on possession charges as well. 

 

July 6

  • Police received four fireworks complaints.
  • A 30-year-old Seattle man was arrested for domestic violence/burglary, assault, malicious mischief and theft after apparently breaking into a house on 116th Ave. NE in the Bridle Trails neighborhood. He allegedly smashed a flat-screen TV, put two holes in the wall and stole a computer. His accomplice, a 28-year-old Federal Way woman, was arrested on a felony warrant from outside of Kirkland. A 25-year-old Kirkland woman was listed as the victim.
  • After being assaulted by her 14-year-old granddaughter from Kirkland, a 58-year-old Shoreline woman fled to the Kirkland Police Department to file a report and seek help in obtaining a protection order. The 14-year-old, who was arrested and lives in Juanita near the high school, allegedly threw knives, forks and a metal-rimmed basket at the woman and threatened to kill her. A 29-year-old Kirkland woman was also listed as being involved.

 

July 7

  • While visiting along Lake Washington Boulevard, an unknown person stole a wallet from the purse of a 31-year-old Kirkland woman. She lost the wallet, credit cards, driver’s license and an unreported amount of cash.
