Prosecutors say that a Redmond man fatally shot another man who was having an affair with his wife during a confrontation in a downtown Bellevue apartment Tuesday morning.
Bail was set at $2 million this afternoon for the suspect arrested in connection with Tuesday's shooting death at the Belle Arts apartments at 111 108th Ave. NE in downtown Bellevue, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
The 43-year-old Redmond man has not yet been formally charged, but he is being held in King County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, according to court documents. Patch generally doesn't name suspects who have yet to be charged with a crime.
The deadline for a charging decision is Friday, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
The victim was identified in court documents as Jin Kim, an employee of the suspect's wife. The woman told investigators that she and Kim were in an affair that was "emotional, not physical," according to court documents.
She told investigators that she and Kim were at the unit at the Belle Arts, where her business is run, when her husband came to the apartment to talk to them.
The suspect told Kim that his wife was going to fire him, according to court documents, and when Kim argued, the husband pulled out a gun and shot him in the face with a 9mm Glock.
The suspect told investigators that he came to the apartment Tuesday morning because was so upset by his wife's affair that he couldn't go to work at his job at . According to court documents, Kim told the suspect that he would leave the family alone for $500,000, at which point the husband became so upset he shot him.
The suspect told investigators that he only meant to threaten the man and did not come to the apartment to shoot anyone.
After the shooting, the suspect's wife said he yelled, "My life is over," and lamented that he would never see the couple's 8-year-old son again.
The suspect threw the gun out the window after the shooting and told his wife to call police, according to court documents.
Medical personnel pronounced Kim dead at the scene, police said.
