Rescue Crews Recover Body of Kirkland Doctor Killed on Mount Baker
Weather on the mountain finally eased enough for rescue teams to reach the body of Dr. Keith Hardy, who slid over a cliff while descending Baker last Friday.
Search and rescue crews on Thursday recovered the body of Kirkland physician Keith Hardy -- killed in a fall off a cliff last Friday -- from the 8,200-foot level of Mount Baker.
Hardy, 34, died June 15, when he fell while descending Baker’s Coleman Glacier Headwall on skis and then slid down the slope and went over a cliff. Hardy and his party had just climbed to the top of the 10,781-foot volcano.
Undersheriff Jeff Parks said Whatcom County Sheriff, Bellingham Mountain Rescue and National Park Service teams recovered the body just after noon Thursday. Rescue crews had been unable to reach the area earlier because of poor weather on the mountain.
Hardy, an experienced climber and skier, was a highly regarded physician at the in Kirkland.
