Kirkland Fire Crews Help Knock Down Bothell Barn Fire

Most of the animals that were in or near the barn, including young goats and horses, apparently escaped harm.

Kirkland Firefighters posted on Facebook yesterday afternoon that crews were at the scene of a fire that destroyed a barn in the Norway Hill area of Bothell. Most of the animals housed in the barn or in attached structures were unharmed, though there was some possibility that some chickens may have died.

Crews from Kirkland, Woodinville, and Bothell battled the smoky blaze that could be seen for miles at the 16500 block of 107 Ave NE.

Patch reader Pam Wright wrote in a comment: "We live close and the smoke was black and just billowing straight up in the air. Once the Fire Fighters arrived and sprayed it with foam we had to shut our doors because the fumes were terrible."

Another Patch user, Emi Hartley Oguri, contributed a photo of the smoke that could be seen from the 160th Street overpass.

According to the Bothell Reporter, though there was at first some concern that the hay-fueled fire could spread, firefighters were able to contain it by around 6 p.m. The caause of the fire had not yet been determined.
