Woman Injured After Jumping From Moving Car on I-405 in Kirkland

The Washington State Patrol says a semi truck swerved to avoid hitting the woman and was then hit from behind by another vehicle at about 9:30 Thursday morning..

 

The Washington State Patrol is investigating a bizarre incident on Interstate 405 in Kirkland Thursday morning in which a woman was injured after jumping from a moving vehicle, causing a semi truck to swerve to miss her and then being hit from behind.

“We had a female traveling in a vehicle” who “decided to jump out of the car,” said State Patrol spokeswoman Trooper Julie Judson. “A semi truck swerved to avoid hitting her and was then hit from behind.”

Judson said it is not yet known why the woman jumped from the car, a Chevrolet passenger vehicle. She was injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

KOMO News reported that the woman avoided serious injuries. KOMO reported that witnesses said the woman suddenly jumped from the car and that the semi almost jack-knifed while swerving to avoid hitting her.

The incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. and caused a serious backup on the I-405 freeway. The State Patrol investigation is continuing.
