Updated: Woodinville Duo Charged For Driving With Kids and Dog in Trunk

Anna Boyle and Aaron Johnson each face three felony charges of endangerment with a controlled substance. Prosecutors have until Oct. 12 to decide whether to charge them with additional crimes.

WOODINVILLE, WA -- A local couple arrested Sunday after they were allegedly caught speeding with the woman's three children and a small dog locked in the trunk has been charged in Snohomish County Court.

Anna Marie Boyle, 28, faces three felony counts of endangerment with a controlled substance for exposing a child to methamphetamine.

Aaron James Johnson, 27, faces three felony counts of endangerment with a controlled substance.

Both Boyle and Johnson live in Woodinville.

Boyle was driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra when she was pulled over by a Washington State Patrol trooper just before 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 23. Reports said Boyle was driving 77 mph in a 60-mph zone on Interstate 405 in Bothell at the time.

The trooper said after the vehicle pulled over, he approached and immediately smelled marijuana. When asked about it, Boyle reportedly said, "I smoke two hits earlier," and told him a small bag of the drug was in the vehicle.

The trooper said Boyle permitted a vehicle search, which reportedly turned up the bag of marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia covered in meth and heroin residue.

About 30 minutes into the search, the trooper said he thought he could hear the deep base of a radio playing inside. The sound turned out to be a pounding coming from the trunk and when another officer opened it he found three children and a small dog inside, according to police reports.

The children, an 8-year-old girl, and two boys, 5 and 7, were taken into protective custody – and reportedly fed lunch by troopers after the kids said they hadn't eaten since the day before. The small dog was also taken into protective custody.

Although Boyle said the kids had crawled into the trunk, a guitar, snowboard and other items filled up the backseat, the report said.

Boyle and Johnson were taken to the Snohomish County Jail. Prosecutors have until Oct. 12 to decide whether to file additional charges.

Dogs are not people September 26, 2012 at 11:41 PM
I take issue with the fact that our society is upgrading pets to human status. Whilst they are living creatures and we should look after them, I am baffled by the fact that many people show more compassion and concern for animals than fellow human beings.

Wendy, I agree with you ,Just because children were involved in something terrible and society would like to see proper justice done does not mean the animal, also involved in the same terrible ordeal does not deserve justice for 'animal cruelity',as well.

What are you talking about "dogs are not people"? Nobody ever said that more compassion was being offered to the dog than to the children. It was simple comment, in my opinion, stating the reader was glad that the dog was taken care of AS WELL as the children.

YOU need to think about anna johnsons case frist she has never ever gone to jail and no one was harmed and and in Aaron johnsons case he sounds like frist and formost they are NOT his kids and that he was Not driving and that is Not his vehicle and he was just there to help Anna ,it was not his duty to discipline her children when they mis behaved and climbed through the backseat into the trunk, witch by the way the kids suffer from adhd, and can be more then a handfull especially in the car in the morning hours when their riddalin has not takin full effect yet, and that's from my professsional opinion. thank you and god bless!

Harvard Grad Student, All I can say to you is WOW!!! No one needs to think of anyone but those children. There is no way that they climbed through the seat into the trunk with all that stuff in their way. Not to mention as a mom if my children even started to act up like that I would have pulled over the car. As for Aaron no it's not his job to take care of her children or blah blah blah but as a responsible adult and person if you saw something like this then you should report it!!! Thank you and God bless!!!
