UPDATE: Incumbents McAuliffe, Stanford Maintain District 1 Leads

It appears now all but certain that State Sen. Rosemary McAulliffe will face Dawn McCravey in the Nov. 7 general election, while State Rep. Derek Stanford will face Sandy Guinn.

UPDATE, 5 p.m. Aug. 8: Newly released vote counts by King County Elections show little change in totals announced after Tuesday’s primary for 1st Legislative District races, with incumbent State Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe maintaining a wide lead over Republican challenger Dawn McCravey and incumbent State Rep. Derek Stanford well ahead of Republican Sandy Guinn. It now appears all but certain those four candidates will move on the the Nov. 7 general election in their respective races. McAuliffe remained ahead after Wednesday’s counts at 48 percent compared to 38.39 percent for McCravey. Stanford led 49.9 percent to Guinn’s 30.2 percent.

Incumbent State Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe will likely face Northshore School Board member Dawn McCravey in the Nov. 7 general election after the two out-polled the other candidate in the 1st Legislative District race, Guy Palumbo.

In another 1st Legislative District race, Incumbent State Rep. Derek Stanford will likely face former Bothell City Council member Sandy Guinn after the two easily out-polled two other candidates.

The 1st Legislative District includes northern portions of Kirkland.

Democrat McAuliffe, a state senator from Bothell since 1993, took 48.30 percent of the early vote totals, compared to 33.3 percent for Republican McCravey. Democratic candidate Guy Palumbo from Woodinville trailed with 13.26 percent of the votes and is unlikley to be able to make up the difference as vote-counting continues this week.

Democrat Stanford took 49.21 percent of the vote in the Position 1 race for the state House, with Republican Guinn taking 30.2 percent. Candidate Brian Travis, a Republican, took 10.9 percent of the early votes, while Democrat Greg Rankich took 9.52 percent.

In the Position 2 vote, State Rep. Luis Moscoso was unopposed, taking 95.95 percent of the early vote.
