Trails of Big Finn Hill Park to be Focus of Public Meeting on June 7

King County Parks is updating its plan for Big Finn and wants to hear what the public think about the trail system there.

The almost four miles of trails that weave through 220-acre will be the focus of a public meeting June 7 by King County Parks staff.

Although in Kirkland, the Big Finn is owned and managed by King County, and it’s been some 20 years since the park’s overall plan was updated. In the meantime, population has grown substantially in the area and use of the park has increased; recently the to a sports field at the park by Kirkland Lacrosse.

“We want to provide an overview of current park uses and management, and then hear from folks what they think about the trails there,” said Connie Blumen, natural lands program manager for King County Parks.

Big Finn’s trails are heavily used by mountain bikers, hikers and runners, along with another approximately eight miles of trails at adjacent 330-acre Saint Edward State Park.

Blumen said local mountain bikers have asked the county to allow them to help maintain the trails at Big Finn, as they already do to some extent, and moreso at Saint Edward.

The meeting is on Thursday, June 7 from 7-9 p.m. at , 8040 NE 132nd St., Kirkland.

The county’s goal is to produce a clear trail use and development plan that insures continued hiking, biking and running opportunities for park users of all ages and abilities.
