Newly-elected Congresswoman Suzan DelBene was in Woodinville for Small Business Saturday.

DelBene's first stop was at the new turkey-themed restaurant Gobble, where she spoke with owner Adam Gold, while her husband, Kurt, ordered lunch.

She then visited the Woodinville Weekly and spoke with editor Julie Boselly about the newspaper business.

Then it was off to Molbak's for a tour before meeting with Woodinville Wine Country President Mike Stevens and Brian Carter at Brian Carter Cellars.

DelBene of Medina, a Democrat, beat out Republican John Koster of Arlington in the 1st Congressional District race in the Nov. 6 elections. DelBene also came out the winner in the special one-month term election to fill Rep. Jay Inslee's seat.

DelBene's first pressing issue as a member of Congress will be to tackle what's known as the "fiscal cliff." If Congress fails to act, on Jan. 1, 2013, a number of financial policies will either expire or initiate, including $7 trillion worth of tax increases and spending cuts over the next 10 years.

"I'm hopeful we'll get there," she said about coming to a solution before the deadline.

DelBene also said she's hoping to become a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. She said with her business experience, it would be a good fit.

"Our number one issue is jobs and the economy, and hopefully I can bring ideas to the table," she said. "Woodinville is a great example of the unique business opportunities we have."
