County Recognizes 13 Kirkland "Green" Businesses

The companies earned honors as "Best Workplaces for Recycling and Waste Reduction."

Thirteen Kirkland businesses have been honored as “Best Workplaces for Recycling and Waste Reduction” by King County’s annual campaign “Recycle More. It’s Easy to Do.”

Overall, 89 businesses in King County, including restaurants, manufacturers, city governments and a wide variety of others, met the criteria and provided individual profiles about how successes were achieved.

The 2011 Kirkland honorees, some which have been selected for the second year, are:

Twelve of the businesses also participate in the city of Kirkland’s Green Business Program, the city said in a press release. In 2007, Kirkland started a program to recognize the efforts of existing “green” businesses and to encourage other businesses to do so. Today more than 80 Kirkland businesses participate.

Qualified businesses are listed on the Kirkland Green Business web page, where they are encouraged to provide a promotional article about their green practices and services.  Businesses also receive a core program logo in the form of a window cling, electronic logo files that can be used for corporate printed materials, and an award letter.

In addition, eligible businesses can obtain logos for seven categories: waste reduction/recycling, water conservation, transportation/commute trip reduction, pollution prevention, green building, energy efficiency and use of green power.
