East Lake Sammamish Trail Set to Re-open Monday

Members of the public are invited to join county and city officials, as well as Cascade Bicycle Club Executive Director Chuck Ayers, in celebrating the re-opening of the Redmond segment of the at 11 a.m. today.

The re-opening ceremony will take place at the trail access off the new parking lot at NE 70th Street and East Lake Sammamish Parkway in Redmond.

The new 1.2-mile segment of the trail stretches from NE 70th Street to the Redmond-Sammamish border at 187th Avenue NE and has gone from a crushed rock surface to a wider, paved trail.

The project included construction of a 77-stall parking lot at NE 70th Street and was expected to open at the end of the year at a cost of $3.4 million. But as the county , the redevelopment project opened one month early at a cost of $1.86 million.

Funding for the East Lake Sammamish Trail work was provided by the 2008-2013, voter-approved parks open space and trails levy. Next spring, King County will begin work on the stretch of trail through Issaquah.
