Elections 2011: Three Challenge Hague for King County Council Position 6

Metropolitan King County Councilwoman Jane Hague, who has represented District 6 for 17 years, faces three challengers in this year's primary.

Ballots are due to the county or to be postmarked by Aug. 16.

Hague, of Bellevue, has been in office since 1994 and is being challenged by Port of Seattle Commissioner John W. Creighton of Kirkland; Richard E. Mitchell of Mercer Island, a King County Housing Authority Commissioner; and former Bellevue City Councilwoman Patsy Bonincontri.

Campaign heats up

The campaign has been heating up, with Mitchell campaign material bringing up a settlement that Creighton made with an ex-girlfriend, as well as Hague's 2007 arrest for driving while intoxicated, which later was pleaded down to reckless driving. That drew a pointed reply from Creighton's campaign, comparing the campaign material to tabloid journalism. (Read more about that exchange in the Seattle Times.)

And so far, Hague has out-raised and outspent her three challengers combined. She has raised $224,174.82 in in-kind and monetary contributions, which represents about half what she expects to spend.

Mitchell, comes in second in terms of fundraising, bringing in $93,000 in campaign contributions. Mitchell is an attorney trained in architecture and urban planning.

Creighton, a Kirkland attorney and a Port of Seattle Commissioner since 2005, trails Mitchell's fundraising by $5,000 with a $88,929 in contributions, according to the Washington Public Disclosure Commission.

Bonincontri, a business owner and trained architect, has raised $2,858, according to the Public Disclosure Commission.
