Heads Up: Several Kirkland Streets to be Closed for Resurfacing Aug. 30-Sept. 2

Residents on the affected streets will not be allowed to drive in or out of their driveways for about eight hours on the day of the work.

Several streets across Kirkland will be resurfaced next week, and if one happens to be in your neighborhood, you’re going to want to know the particulars.

That’s because each street being resurfaced, with an asphalt and fine rock mixture know as slurry seal, will be closed to all traffic from about 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the work. No one will be allowed to drive in or out of their driveways during that period, or on the street at all.

Check the attached PDF-file map for the specific days and streets, which are in three areas of Juanita, on north Rose Hill and the east of Market, Moss Bay and Bridle Trails areas.

The city and its contractor, Blackline, Inc., will start the work on Tuesday, Aug. 30, and hope to finish by Friday, Sept. 2. But one big wild card is the weather. Even a forecast for rain will delay the work.

“This takes a lot of coordination. We get a lot of calls,” said Kari Page, spokeswoman for the Kirkland Public Works Department. “Almost every day (during the work) someone will just drive through it. Then it’s stained; the seal will have your tracks permanently.”

Door-hanger notices will be posted on all residences and businesses on the affected streets within 24 hours of the work. Residents and employees are asked to make sure they park their cars outside the work zone well ahead of the work, which is typically from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the closures usually from 8-4.

Two more streets will be resurfaced with slurry seal some time this fall.

Again, any wet weather will cause changes in the schedule. For up-to-date schedule information and/or rescheduling dates, please call the public works hotline at 425-587-3838 or check the Project Web Page.
