Jane Hague Files for Re-Election to County Council

Council vice chair says she'll be tough on fiscal issues, moderate on social issues and strong on the environment.

King County Council Vice Chair Jane Hague made it official Monday that she is running for re-election, filing papers with King County Elections on the first day candidates can file for 2011 primary and general elections.

Hague had kicked off her re-election campaign at an April event in Bellevue, which, she said in a news release, raised $80,000. She represents District 6, which includes Kirkland, Redmond, Beaux Arts, Bellevue, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Medina, Mercer Island and Yarrow Point.

Hague, who joined the King County Council in 1994, has been active in many recent issues involving Kirkland, including the annexation of three northern neighborhoods that had been part of unincorporated King County until last Wednesday.

Others who have expressed interest in the District 6 post are former Bellevue city councilwoman Patsy Bonincontri, Port of Seattle Commissioner John Creighton of Kirkland, and Mercer Island resident Richard E. Mitchell.

“I love the Eastside and I’m eager to continue serving my neighbors in District 6,” Hague said in the news release. “It really is an honor to serve the people. We need to make county government leaner, smarter and more efficient in delivering services.”

According to the state Public Disclosure Commission, she has raised about $180,000 for the cycle. Hague has said she expects to raise more than $500,000. All seats on the council are non-partisan, and at her campaign gala in April, she was joined by Democrat and Republican supporters.

“I want to continue to provide a bridge between liberals and conservatives on the council to find solutions we can all agree on. I have blocked tax increases without a vote of the people and helped find ways to protect parks and urban forests,” Hague said.

Voters want someone who is tough on fiscal issues, moderate on social issues and strong on the environment, she said.
