Kirkland Deputy Mayor Doreen Marchione to Seek Second Council Term

Marchione said she plan to hold a campaign kick-off event April 10 at the Kirkland Performance Center, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Deputy Mayor Doreen Marchione announced on Tuesday that she will run for a second term on the Kirkland City Council.

“As Kirkland settles into being a city of 80 thousand, we need Doreen’s experience and leadership skills”, said Mary-Alyce Burleigh, former Kirkland Mayor.

According to a press release sent by Marchione's campaign, during her first term she emphasized bringing civility back to the Council, hiring an exceptional City Manager, and ensuring that the annexation area received all the services promised without a decline in service to the current residents.  She said in the release that all three of these goals were accomplished.

As a champion of the Cross Kirkland Corridor, Marchione supports prompt conversion to an interim bike and pedestrian trail.  “The corridor, along with a revitalized Totem Lake area, will knit together a cohesive city,” she said.  Master planning of a permanent trail will take place this year, and Doreen supports an open process in which all voices are heard regarding this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Marchione said in the press release that she believes that our quality of life in Kirkland is what draws companies like Google to locate and expand in Kirkland.  Marchione said she is committed to Kirkland’s economic development with an emphasis on the Totem Lake area, restoring services to the neighborhoods, and ensuring that Kirkland’s quality of life continues to be enhanced through the implementation of our Parks and Roads Levies.

She also said she's excited about the update to Kirkland's’ Comprehensive Plan, which will set the vision and plans for the next twenty years of development. “It is important that we get the Comprehensive Plan Update right, which is why I will ensure that the process is open and inviting to all citizens.  I want to make sure Kirkland remains the most livable, walkable and inclusive city in the state.”

A kick-off campaign event will be held at The Kirkland Performance Center on Wednesday, April 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  Go to www.doreenmarchione.com to RSVP or learn more.
