Kirkland State Rep. Springer Backs Hague

Springer says he is supporting the King County Council incumbent because of her work for the Eastside and record of working with members of both parties.

State Rep. Larry Springer of Kirkland Thursday endorsed incumbent Jane Hague in her re-election campaign for the King County Council.

Although her council seat is a non-partisan position, Hague in the past has identified herself as a Republican. But Springer, a Democrat, said he supported her because of her record of working with members of both parties.

“Her leadership, dedication to the Eastside, and ability to work across the political divide has earned her the respect of the entire Eastside,” Springer said in a press release issued by the Hague campaign. “It should earn her another term too.”

In what is considered a tight race, Hague faces in the Nov. 7 general election attorney Richard Mitchell of Mercer Island, who during the primary race was and the Municipal League.

Hague said in the release she was honored to have the support of Springer, a businessman who operates wine shop in downtown Kirkland with his wife, Kirkland Deputy Mayor Penny Sweet.

“People are tired of partisan bickering,” she said. “I work hard to represent everyone, not just one political extreme over the other as my opponent does.”
