THIS CAMPAIGN
What is the primary reason you are running for this office?
To continue to represent the best interests of all citizens and businesses in Kirkland.
What will be your top three priorities if you get elected and why?
1) Establishing a citizen-based priority budget process.
2) Continue strong support and funding for public safety.
3) Improve the quality of life for all citizens of Kirkland.
What sets you apart from the other candidates and/or previous office holders?
I have deep roots here, having lived in the Kirkland area for over 54 years and therefore have a deep understanding and appreciation of our history. I have been involved directly in the Kirkland community for 30 years, been a member of PTSA, tutored, and coached youth sports. My children are graduates of the Lake Washington School District. I've served as a volunteer for numerous organizations and events in Kirkland for as long as I have lived here.
I support or participate in numerous Kirkland organizations, including the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce, Kirkland Performance Center, Kirkland Arts Center, Kirkland Concourse and Kirkland Car Show.
Twice appointed to the Kirkland Parks Board and served 9 years including 3 as Chair. Served on the Downtown Action Team for 5 years including Vice Chair, Chair of the Downtown Parking Committee (now Parking Advisory Board), Vice Chair of the Marina Park Lid Design Committee, Chair or the Skate Board Park Advisory Committee, Technical Advisor on the Teen Union Building and Kirkland Performance Center and member of Lake and Central Steering Committee Member.
Since my election to the City Council in 2005, I've chaired the Public Safety Committee, serve on the Economic Development Committee, and chaired the Council Annexation sub-committee.
I also currently represent Kirkland on the following Boards: Suburban Cities Association, Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Board, Regional Transit Committee (Metro), Enterprise Seattle and Norcom.
I also have served as Suburban Cities Caucus Chair for Growth Management Planning Council (King County), Caucus Vice Chair for Growth Management Policy Board (Puget Sound Regional Council), Vice Chair Suburban Cities Caucus for Regional Transit Committee and Jail Advisory Group.
How much money do you expect your campaign to spend on this election?
I am running a green campaign with a maximum budget of $5000. We will only print campaign signs that we intend to recycle. I am accepting no more than $25 per Kirkland resident or business. Any funds left over will be donated to the “Give a little, get a lot” fund for Kirkland.
