I-405 Weekend Closure Postponed Due to Rain Forecast Sunday

Crews would have installed new ramps for Interstate 405 and State Route 520 during the planned weekend closure.

The weekend closure of Interstate 405 has been postponed because of rain forecast for Sunday, the Washington State Department of Transportation announced.

The National Weather Service reports that rain is likely, with a 70 percent chance of precipitation.

The closure would have allowed WSDOT crews to connect new onramps on I 405 and State Route 520 in downtown Bellevue. The change would have meant that motoristts headed to SR 520 from downtown Bellevue would no longer be able to get on at Northeast Eighth Street. The new onramp directly to SR 520 will be on Northeast Tenth Street.

No word on the new date for when the work will be completed.

The project is part of Bellevue Braids, a $107.7 million construction project that aims to reduce existing congestion in Bellevue with new braided ramps that separate traffic going to SR 520 and I-405 and an SR 520 bypass lane over NE 124th Avenue NE. Among the improvements will be replacing the NE 12th Street Bridge with a wider structure that includes a bicycle and pedestrian lane and improves traffic circulation in Bellevue. Construction on that aspect of the project continues.
