Families looking for a fun learning opportunity about pedestrian and bicycle safety should mark their calendars for June 7 to attend the City’s “Walk and Roll” Safety Fair.

Families are encouraged to bring their kids’ bikes and helmets to the event to be held as part of Juanita Friday Market, Juanita Park, 9703 NE Juanita Drive from 3 to 7 p.m.

Some activities offered include a Bike Rodeo for kids, ages 3-8, helmet fittings, and safe walking and intersection safety games. Helmets are available for a $10 donation. Free bicycle decorating will be offered by the Kirkland Youth Council.

BikeWorks will be accepting old or used bikes to support their community programs in a van at the park entrance with easy drop-off.

This event is supported by Feet First, Cascade Bicycle Club, Bicycle Alliance of Washington, Safe Kids Eastside, Evergreen Bike Alliance, Kirkland Bicycle, and other associations and Kirkland businesses.

By visiting the City information booths, adults can earn “Market Bucks” good for purchasing any items from the Market vendors. City staff will be demonstrating a new interactive project map that shows funded, unfunded, active and completed capital improvement projects and seek suggested project ideas.

Easy drop-off, free parking, and complementary bike parking is available. For event information, visit www.kirklandwa.gov or contact Phyllis Blower, Public Works, at 425-587-3803 or pblower@kirklandwa.gov.

In addition to the Safety Fair, information will be available about several long range plans the City is developing and updating as part of the City’s Kirkland 2035 public involvement campaign.
