Times Takes Look at Juanita Bay Party Boating Controversy

Some lakefront residents say they get no peace in summer, while others and many boaters says it's just the sound of fun in the sun.

The City of Kirkland's efforts to deal with complaints about summertime noise and potential safety issues among boaters in summer on popular Juanita Bay, and the resulting controversy was the focus of an article in Sunday's Seattle Times.

Many lakeshore residents say noise from boats and loud music, as well as often indecent behavior among boaters tied together along with safety issues, must be addressed. But when the City of Kirkland proposed rules that would prohibit more than two boats from tying up together, or rafting, along with stringent on-the-water noise regulations, boaters turned out in force at a City Council meeting to protest.
