Goings replaces Dr. Sharon McGavick, former LWIT president who came out of retirement to serve as interim president after the death of Dr. David Woodall. Woodall died of a heart attack in September of 2012 after serving as LWIT president for less than a year.

Goings said she plans to work with the LWIT board and faculty to continue the school’s effort to become accredited in new four-year degree programs.

“As president I look forward to making sure the pathways for students to their degrees are robust and seamless, that they have those options, whether they are in high school placement, two-year or four-year programs,” she said.

She also said she will work toward improved state funding for LWIT programs, toward funding from grants and other sources, and partnerships with private industry.

“LWIT has done an outstanding job partnering with industry and private business on the Eastside,” she said.

Goings joined Clover Park Technical College as vice president of college relations and resource development in 2004 and assumed additional duties in 2009 as VP of operations and college relations. Before her community and technical college career, Goings served as a deputy director on the staff of for U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks, with responsibility for higher education and workforce outreach. She is a 2013 doctoral candidate in Higher Education Administration at the University of Nebraska Lincoln as part of the National Community College Leadership Cohort.

Founded in 1949, LWIT offers hands-on training in manufacturing, transportation, energy, business, allied health, engineering, computer and information systems, food and hospitality, and health and fitness, in both associate degrees and baccalaureate degrees.
