Discovery School Adds Second Parent Information Night

Parents who want their children to attend the 'Choice' school on Finn Hill must attend one of two meetings.

in Kirkland, a “Choice” school in the Lake Washington District, has added a second parent information night on Tuesday, Jan. 24. 6:30 p.m. at the school.

Attendance at the meeting, or an earlier one on Jan. 10, is required for anyone applying to Discovery Community School, which is on the campus of (12801 84th Ave NE) on Finn Hill. It was founded in 1994 by parents as a cooperative learning environment for their children while maintaining the benefits of a district-run curriculum. The approximately 72 students work at their own levels of academic readiness.

As a Choice school, it is open students from throughout the district. If more students apply to attend DCS than there are spaces, a lottery is held to determine who is admitted.

Because of the change in grade configuration, with district elementary schools changing from grades K-6 to grades K-5, DCS will also change its grade range to K-5 next year. Since families interested in DCS may not know about this change, an additional information night has been added to ensure that any families interested will have the opportunity to attend the meeting and subsequently apply to the school.

For more information on Discovery Community School or their application process, go to the school's website or call the school office at 425-936-2704.

Hopelink's actions mandating Section 8 housing went too far. Sorry, you are off our list ofRead More organizations to support even though the support before was robust. City council listened to organized carpetbaggers and not the citizens they are sworn to represent. All that can be replaced need to go at the next election Hopelink needs to find folks to contribute who have not been done wrong by this organization.
