Eastside MathFest Saturday at Lakeview Elementary

Local elementary students will go from booth to booth playing games in an event designed to build confidence and enthusiasm in math.

 

More than 500 students and teachers are expected at Kirkland’s Saturday for Eastside MathFest 2012, a fun celebration of math sponsored by a Seattle-based educational non-profit group.

It’s an unusual event in which first- through fifth-graders and their siblings go from one booth to the next playing math games, building their confidence and enthusiasm in math. The event was created by the group Explorations in Math, a non-profit group with a goal to build a sustainable math culture in elementary school communities and make math a lifelong adventure for students.

MathFest is for students from the elementary schools , , Clyde Hill, Chestnut Hill Academy, Lakeview, , , Rachel Carson and .

The event is from 1-4 p.m. at the school (10400 NE 68th St.); participants register for one of two times.
