Kamiakin Teacher Named Junior High Music Educator of the Year

Ward Brannman leads the Kirkland school's respected Jazz Ensemble and earned the honor from the Washington Music Educator's Association.

Ward Brannman, director of ’s respected , has been named Middle School/Junior High Educator of the Year by the Washington Music Educator’s Association.

The ensemble, started in 1986 at the school in the Kingsgate area, plays regularly at community events and festivals, including last June at Kirkland’s annexation celebration and earlier in the year at the .

Brannman, also a music teacher at the Kamiakin, will be recognized at the WMEA Diamond Jubilee Conference in Yakima over President’s Day Weekend, Feb. 17-20. More than 1,000 music educators from around the state are expected to attend the conference, which will include more than 100 educational sessions, 30 performing groups, 80 exhibitors and more than 1,600 students in the WMEA All-State honor groups, which includes students in grades 5 through 12.
