Kangs Dump Islanders 11-4, Boost Conference-Leading Record to 9-1

Lake Washington rallied for nine runs in the bottom of the third to whip Mercer Island, with Jeremy Parkhurst belting a go-ahead double.

Down 4-2 with two outs, the Kangaroos exploded for nine runs in the third inning to dump Mercer Island 11-4 at in Kirkland Monday night, extending their KingCo 3A Conference-leading record to 9-1.

Nick Johnson, who also pitched five innings to earn the win, started the scoring in the third with an RBI double. Kangs catcher Stevie Semmler followed with an RBI single, and then Jeremy Parkhurst drove in two runs with a double and Theo Alexander drove in two more with a single.

Parkhurst finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Alexander went 1-for-3, and now has 24 RBIs on the season and a .512 batting average, along with 25 runs scored and an on-base percentage of .629.

Johnson gave up the four runs and nine hits, with four strikeouts. Reliever Ben Ciuba came on to finish with two scoreless innings.

Lake Washington, now 13-3 overall, next takes on crosstown rival (4-11) Wednesday night at Lee Johnson Field, 7 p.m. Juanita lost Monday night at Mount Si, 8-2.
