Lake Washington's Hunter Hopkins has week to remember.

KingCo 3A/2A Girls

The Juanita and Lake Washington girls basketball teams could not have set up their big game this Wednesday night better, with both teams extending impressive win streaks last week.

Juanita stretched its win streak to six despite a scare from Bellevue on Friday, while Lake Washington won its 10th straight game Saturday to tie Mount Si for second place in the conference. Juanita and Lake Washington meet Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Juanita.

Liberty also climbed into second place with a tight victory over Mount Si on Wednesday and a blowout of Sammamish on Friday.

Game of the Week: Liberty 39, Mount Si 36. It wasn’t pretty, but Liberty put up a strong defensive effort against Mount Si, limiting the Cougars to single-digit scoring outputs in three quarters. Aspen Winegar led the Patriots with 12 points.

Player of the Week: Hunter Hopkins, Lake Washington –  Hopkins, who is 6 feet tall, averaged 20 points per game in three Lake Washington victories during the week. The junior star scored 24 against Mercer Island on Wednesday before dropping 27 in a non-league matchup with Bonney Lake at the Assist for Life Women’s Basketball Classic on Saturday.

KingCo 3A/2A

Weather affected the KingCo 3A/2A conference this week, reducing it to a handful of Friday games. No surprises in the final scores, as the top four teams in the league all won handily.

Game of the Week: Mercer Island 68, Mount Si 54 –  Game of the Week: Mercer Island 68, Mount Si 54 –  Mercer Island got a boost in the race for the KingCo 3A crown when Lake Washington upset Bellevue last week and was looking to avoid a similar upset at the hands of the Wildcats. The Islanders used a strong defensive effort to outlast Mount Si and retained a share of first place in the conference.

Player of the Week: Nate Sikma, Bellevue – Not a ton of options to choose from this week, but Sikma takes the honors. The senior forward notched 25 points against Juanita to tie his season-high and keep Bellevue in contention for the league crown.
