LWSD Board to Take Action on STEM School Reports at Today's Meeting

A hearing examiner has recommended the district's plans for the school are in compliance with King County standards.

Redmond's new secondary STEM school is on the agenda for tonight's Lake Washington School District (LWSD) Board of Directors meeting, as the board is scheduled to take action on two reports that include concerns of nearby residents.

The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at the , 16250 NE 74th St. in Redmond. Public comment will be accepted at the meeting.

The choice school will serve students from throughout the district and have a curriculum dedicated to science, technology, engineering and math — also known as STEM subjects. The seven-acre building site is located on property next to  that has been owned by the district since 1989.

The two reports on tonight's agenda stem from a  as part of the district's conditional use permit approval from King County and a resident appeal to the district's State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) plan for the site.

The county hearing examiner has recommended the school board adopt a decision to deny the resident appeals as well as approve a report of compliance with King County code.

The examiner has also recommended LWSD consult with Metro to discuss bringing public transportation to the school and that the district's traffic engineer consult with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to discuss the possibility of providing separate emergency vehicle access from the STEM school onto State Route 202.
