LWSD Superintendent Candidate to Meet Public Jan. 10

The Lake Washington School District board's preferred choice to replace Dr. Chip Kimball, Dr. Traci Pierce, will be at Redmond City Hall for an open house.

Dr. Traci Pierce, the Lake Washington School District Board of Director’s preferred choice to replace outgoing Supt. Chip Kimball, will meet the public at an open house Jan. 10 at .

She’ll be at Bytes Cafe on the first floor of city hall (15670 NE 85th Street) from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and Pierce will say a few words at 6:45.

She is currently the district’s deputy superintendent and emerged recently as the preferred candidate after an internal search by the board. Because the district is transitioning to a new grade configuration next fall and also planning a new STEM high school -- science, technology, engineering and math -- in Redmond, the board began its search with candidates within the district familiar with those initiatives.

This is the first of several public sessions the board is planning, to introduce Pierce to the public and gain feedback.

“Education has always been a passion for me,” she said in a district press release. “My 17 years at LWSD has provided me the opportunity to work in many different positions, giving me a true understanding of our vision and what tools we must use to reach it.”

Kimball is leaving the district in 2012 to become superintendent at a school in Singapore.
