Rebel Girls Host Rival Kangs; Cultural Council Meets

Essental information for today in Kirkland

1) It’s showdown time for high school basketball in Kirkland, with the 12-2 Juanita Rebels girls hosting the cross-town rival Lake Washington Kangaroos. The 11-3 Kangs have won 10 straight, thanks in large part to big-scoring 6-0 forward Hunter Hopkins. The Rebs have won six straight; one of their players to watch is speedy 5-5 point guard MiKayla Jones. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.

2) The Totem Lake and Highlands neighborhood associations meet tonight at 7 p.m. for the respective regular sessions. The Totem Lake volunteers meet at Kamiakin Junior High, while the Highlands group meets at the City of Kirkland maintenance center on 8th St. 

3) The Kirkland Cultural Council is dedicated to “making Kirkland a more artistically inspiring place.” If you’re interested in helping to oversee the city’s art collection, the council meets tonight from 4-6 p.m. in the Rose Hill Room at the .

4) The Eastside Business Association presents its Workshop Luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hector’s, with speaker Howard Howell, “That Sales Guy.” Network with other local business professionals and learn how to maximize your Internet marketing presence. Space is limited, RSVP to 425-820-6373.

5) For students from grades K-12, volunteer tutors are available from 5-7 p.m. tonight at the Kirkland Library’s Study Zone. Adults looking to improve spoken English skills and learn about American culture will appreciate Talk Time at 5 p.m.
