LW District Undecided on Makeup Days

The Lake Washington School District will decide how to make up for lost school days sometime in next few weeks. However, several canceled meetings have been rescheduled.

The Lake Washington School District has yet to decide on how to make up for the days lost during last week's snow storm, said district spokesperson Kathryn Reith.

"Generally we add them to the end of the school year, but that decision has not yet been made," Reith said.

Reith said that the district is in part waiting to see if even more days might be lost to snow.

Given that the school year was already scheduled to end fairly late on June 22, Reith said the district is concerned about going even later into the summer and is considering adding makeup days throughout the remainder of the year as opposed to tacking them onto the end.

"There are other options we could do," Reith said.

The district is legally required to have 180 days of school and 1,000 hours of instruction. Three days were lost to last week's snow storm.

Reith said that a decision will be made sometime between the end of January or the middle of February.Β

However, the end of this semester for junior highs and high schools has been moved back from Jan. 27 to Feb. 3. Each school will communicate to their students any changes in the schedule for tests.

Also, two canceled public meetings for the public to meet to replace outgoing Supt. Chip Kimball, have been rescheduled.

One will be at the LWSD Resource Center in Redmond on Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. The other will be at the Sammamish City Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

A meeting in Kirkland for Dr. Pierce that was canceled last week has not yet been rescheduled.
