Second Grand Slam in Two Games Caps Kangs Rally

Lake Washington scores 10 runs in the last inning to dump Interlake 11-5.

Another game, another grand slam for the baseball team. Victor Mayorquin followed teammate Theo Alexander’s slam on Monday with one of his own Wednesday night as the Kangs rallied again with 10 runs in the final inning to dump Interlake 11-5.

Lake Washington is now 5-0 (9-2 overall) atop the Kingco 3A standings and facing tough Mount Si (4-0/7-1) Friday night at Lee Johnson Field in Kirkland, 7 p.m.

Showing impressive power of late, the Kangs now have seven home runs on the season, with three homers in the last two game, two of them slams.

Alexander’s big homer in the fifth inning Monday made the difference in that 13-10 victory over rival Juanita High. On Wednesday night at Interlake, the Kangs entered the seventh in a similar situation, down 4-1.

But singles by Jordan LaFave and Zach Johnson, along with five walks and a hit batter, started the scoring before Mayorquin launched his blast to put Lake Washington up 11-4. All of the scoring in the inning came with two outs.

LaFave reached base four times and scored three runs, going two-for-three at the plate with an RBI. Johnson finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Robert Hill started on the mound for the Kangs and combined with reliever Rasik Parikh to scatter six hits and strike out 10.
