Kirkland’s most famous soccer player appeared at a press conference by her new team, the Seattle Reign FC, confident, comfortable and answering as many questions about her personal life as her professional life, The Seattle Times reports.
Solo, 31 and a Finn Hill resident, will serve as goalkeeper and the face of the new women’s pro club, which begins play this spring. First she will report to the U.S. national team on Feb. 2.
She acknowledged her at-times tumultuous personal life, including an incident at her home last Nov. 13 during which Kirkland police arrested her then fiance and now husband Jerramy Stevens, the former University of Washington and NFL football player (charges were never filed). But she said right now she’s the happiest she’s been ever been.
"It's been a crazy year, as always — the story of my life — but it's been a great year," the Richland native and former UW star told the Times. "Right now, I'm the happiest I've ever been in my personal life. I'm happily married. Yeah, there's lots of ups and downs, but that's what makes us strong is getting through them all."
