Tuiasosopo to Return to UW as QB Coach

The former NFL quarterback and Woodinville High School standout texted a local sports radio host on Saturday that “I’m coming home.”

Several media sources are reporting on Saturday that Woodinville native Marques Tuiasosopo is coming back to Washington as UW QB's coach.

Sportsradio KJR 950AM host Dave Softy Mahler first announced the scoop via twitter that Tuiasosopo had contacted him to confirm that he accepted an offer from the University of Washington for the coaching staff position.

Tuiasosopo reportedly stated via a text message: “I’m coming home.”

A former Woodinville High School multi-sport letterman and standout quarterback, Tuiasosopo led the UW Huskies to the Rose Bowl in 2000 and then played in the NFL for seven years with the Oakland Raiders and New York Jets. After his final stint in Oakland in 2008, he joined the UW coaching staff from 2009 to 2010 as an assistant strength coach, then left for UCLA, where he was the tight ends coach and recruiter.

Tuiasosopo’s hire fills the opening created when receivers coach Jimmie Dougherty left to become the offensive coordinator at San Jose State, and Tuiasosopo will likely get a hefty raise with his UW re-hire, according to the Seattle Times
