Is growth always the way to prosperity?

Has the American Dream turned into a TRANCE? The dream of acquiring & accumulating ever more in the face of limited fixed resources has enormous human & environmental costs.

The American Dream that currently drives our actions may actually have turned into a dangerous TRANCE, a dream that is on automatic pilot.   The dream of acquiring and accumulating ever more in the face of limited fixed resources seems to be based on the belief that all growth is good, regardless of the human and environmental costs.   Are we wise enough to look before it too late at what our trance is doing to us and the world we live in…. the plants, the animals, the sky, the water, and each other?

Our obsession with growth has created a system that is broken. It’s not providing the happiness or the prosperity we seek. But that’s good news; it means a shift to a sustainable model will be good for us. We’ll be happier and more prosperous!
“Growth Busters” is an entertaining documentary that questions the belief that growth is the same as prosperity.  It explores our obsession with urban & economic growth & our reluctance to address overpopulation issues head-on.

This movie holds up a mirror, encouraging us to examine the beliefs and behaviors we must leave behind – and the values we need to embrace – so our children can survive and thrive.
