Supporting Parents of Teens…Free Parent Education Series

In the middle of a busy week, 47 adults listened raptly as Amy Lang presented Sex and the Modern Teen: What Parents Really Need to Know. It takes a village to raise a teen. L & E Academy is helping, by hosting monthly workshops to increase support for parents. Ms. Lang launched the L & E Academy Parent Education Series Tuesday night to an attentive audience of parents, counselors, and others who work with youth.

With candor and humor, the founder of BirdsAndBeesAndKids made the taboo topic approachable. Within 20 minutes she had adults turning to others (strangers!) and eagerly sharing perceptions, challenges, and ideas.  Watching the engaging adult learning, it was easy to see why this dynamic sex educator is an award-winning speaker and consultant.

For those who still found the topic still perplexing after an hour and a half of strategies for communicating with teens, Ms. Lang had her parent-friendly books and DVDs available.  For further information, Amy can be reached at Amy@BirdsAndBeesAndKids.com

Tired of competing with electronics for your teen’s attention? Come listen to Margit. The next presentation is October 15: Taking the Terror Out of Talking to Teens.  This Halloween-themed workshop is presented by author, radio show hostess, and coach Margit Crane (www.margitcrane.com). Her light-hearted approach reminds us that while we can always improve at communicating, we don’t have to take ourselves too seriously as parents of teens. (A powerful resource, she is currently a contender for the King 5 Best of the West blog award. See more on her web site!)

All L & E Academy Parent Education Series seminars are for adults only. They are free and held from 6:30-8:00 pm, at 308 Fourth Avenue South, Kirkland (Northlake Unitarian Church). Details can be found at LEacademy.org. Here’s to supporting parents in raising thriving teens!
