Copper River Salmon: Lots of Sockeye, Not Many Kings

The second opening for the Copper River fishery.

The second 12-hour opening of the salmon fishery at Copper River in Alaska was great for the sockeye salmon, but not the king salmon. A million pounds of sockeye were caught, so prices dropped like a rock. King prices were firm, but not very good numbers were caught. Watch out for places selling Copper River kings for under $44.99 a pound, it might not really be the real thing.

Remember, the kings, also called chinook, will run normally to the end of June and the sockeyes till the end of July. So get the grills ready, it is time for some good cooking.
