Kirkland's Summerfest Seeks Young Artists

Artwork from local youth between the ages of 7 and 18 are invited to submit artwork between now and August 2 for display during Kirkland’s Summerfest.

Last year – its inaugural year – Summerfest was a smashing success. Downtown Kirkland was alight with experiences for everyone: the event catered to foodies’ appetites with several decadent food trucks; entertaining music echoed between three different stages; and children’s booths provided family friendly activities. Another major emphasis of Summerfest was its art. Several national and local artists displayed their finest creations. Some artists, as was the case for local artist Rebecca DeVere, created works of art before attendees’ very eyes.

This year, Summerfest, which will occur August 9, 10, and 11, will be even better. All the same activities from last year will return – the food trucks, the music, live Shakespeare, the beer garden. But this year the event will also feature VIP lounges, Robots, and a Cardboard Boat Race that promises titanic entertainment.

Summerfest plans also to place a greater emphasis on our community’s Young Artists. In that regard, children between 7 and 18 can exhibit their artwork at the Young Artists Exhibition. The theme for this year's exhibition is Water and ribbons and prizes will be awarded in the following age groups: Under age 7, 7-12, and 13-18.

Children can submit their artwork now through August 2 at the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce office located at 328 Parkplace Center (near Parkplace Books) during office hours: 9:00-5:00, Monday through Friday. For more information and to download an entry form, please visit www.kirklandsummerfest.com or pick up a flyer at the Kirkland Public Library or Chamber of Commerce.
