The Kirkland Kiwanis Club gets a great turnout Saturday at its benefit for KITH and other Eastside charities.

More than 250 people dove into stakes of pancakes with sausage on the side at the Kirkland Kiwanis Club's second Pancake Breakfast Saturday at the Peter Kirk Community Center.

Ostensibly, the breakfast was designed to raise money for Eastside charities, such as the non-profit agency Kirkland Interfaith Transitions in Housing, with a suggested donation of $7.

But it also served as a classic community celebration, joining together neighbors and friends on the holiday weekend to enjoy each other's company while supporting worthy causes.

"It's fun for us too, or we wouldn't be doing it," said Marlene Zeiler, whose husband is a Kiwanis member and who volunteered to help serve. "We wanted to do something for the community."

It appeared that the strong turnout was easily beyond the 250-some who attended last year's inaugural Pancake Breakfast.

"This is our second year, and we're really pleased with the turnout today," said Don Ross, a past president who chairs the club's publicity committee. "I think this will be a good fundraiser for us in the future. All the money goes back into the community."

It was a terrific event -- enjoy the accompanying photos!
