Pet of the Week: Saved from Kill Shelter, Friendly Duchess Needs Home

The 2-year-old calico is having surgery to correct an issue with her teeth, but will then have a clean bill of health and be ready for adoption.

Duchess is a petite 2-year-old calico with an adorable round face, saved recently by Houghton’s from a shelter in Eastern Washington where she likely would have been euthanized.

MEOW is a no-kill shelter and helps rescue cats like Duchess whenever it can. Duchess is super friendly and readily shows off her lovely purrs, but has a health issue that is being addressed.

It was originally thought that she was a senior cat because of the compromised condition of her mouth and teeth. But the volunteers at MEOW have since learned that this girl is only 2 and has a rare condition where the normal eruption and development of her adult teeth did not occur. To correct the situation and prevent future complications, she will undergo a very complicated and full extraction of her teeth in a few days.

After recovery, she will be ready to begin her new life, and she will easily adapt to life without teeth, since cats typically swallow their food without chewing.

She will have a clean bill of health, with all of her vaccinations, and will have been micro-chipped by the time she is ready for adoption. If you think you might have a home for Duchess, please see www.meowcatrescue.org or call 425-822-6369.
