Volunteers Needed for Community SERVE Day

On Aug. 27, volunteers will spread throughout the area helping teachers at AG Bell and Mark Twain elementary schools, as well as mobile home parks and groups homes.

The third annual Community SERVE Day is Aug. 27 and volunteers are needed to work in Kirkland, Redmond and many other community projects scheduled for the day.

Kate Jones is the local outreach coordinator for Northshore Baptist Church in Kirkland, which is organizing the event.

“This is a project started by a couple of churches in the Kirkland, Bothell, Woodinville and Redmond area,” she said. “We work with schools to help teachers and staff prepare for the school year, individuals who need help with yard work or minor home repairs and other community organizations. This year we are in 14 different elementary schools, three mobile home parks and we’re working with Vision House.”

This year organizers are expecting more than 1600 people, 500 more than last year. Currently, 700 people have signed up to volunteer. You can view the various projects and their locations and sign up for one near you at communityserveday.org.

“One of my favorite parts of the day in the past couple of years has been to watch local churches and community organizations join together and serve together,” Jones said. “The focus of the day is not about any organization getting recognition it is about the community participating in the community.”
