One of the oldest schools in Kirkland, founded in 1907 and last modernized in 2005, Juanita is a diverse school withMore almost half the student body Asian, Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Black. A traditional elementary school that is academically strong, Juanita's students consistently score above state averages in standard state tests and above district averages in many, with strong scores particularly in reading and math.</p> <p>The school offers the Quest program for highly capable students, and used a state grant to integrate an arts program into its curriculum. It has also developed a Life Skills program to improve student behavior.</p> <p>Recognizing its diversity, Juanita serves as one of the Lake Washington district's satellite schools for the English Language Learners program.</p>

Outside of the immediate community, Helen Keller Elementary School is perhaps best known as the longtime home of the Hot Dog U.S.A. Jump Rope Team, one of the top teams in the nation.</p> <p>Its mission is to achieve goals in reading, writing, math and science through growth, respect, integrity and perseverance. The school offers an English Language Learners support program and a Learning Center to serve kindergarten through fourth grade students with developmental needs.</p> <p>State testing shows scores in core subjects generally above state averages.</p>
